About Us

The ULI South Carolina District Council was formed in 2005 to encourage dialogue on land use and planning throughout this state and within each of the three main regions (Upstate, Midlands, Coastal), and to provide tools and resources, leadership development, and a forum through which the state can become better connected. The District Council is led by an Executive Committee with statewide and regional representation, as well as steering committees within each region that focus on the development of membership, sponsorship, programs and Young Leaders activities. With over 600 members, ULI South Carolina is committed to bringing together leaders from across the fields of real estate and land use policy to exchange best practices and serve community needs.

Growing By Choice

In local communities, ULI District Councils bring together a variety of stakeholders to find solutions and build consensus around land use and development challenges. For those topics that are relevant to all involved in the future of our state’s communities, ULI South Carolina will use available resources to strengthen decision making and idea generation at a statewide level. ULI South Carolina will focus on:

  • Leadership development
  • Weaving together a statewide vision and capacity for responsible land use that recognizes the uniqueness of each region
  • the South Carolina Quality Growth Initiative
  • the benefit  and role of the ULI Senior Fellows

Because of the distinctive character of the communities within each of South Carolina’s three geographical regions, the District Council will also work to share knowledge at the local and regional level in order to form solid partnerships and examine close-to-home issues.  In each region- the Upstate, Midlands and Coastal- ULI South Carolina will:

  • showcase “best practices” as a means of learning and building capacity
  • provide a safe environment for dialogue among all areas of the public, private and nongovernmental sectors
  • share information at the local level through valuable educational programs and topic-specific task forces .

To access information about programs, committees and community outreach within each region, please visit the Coastal, Midlands, and Upstate pages.

From the Chair...

Champions of Community, Keepers of the Future

Welcome to ULI South Carolina! This young organization has gained momentum in our state over the past 5 years because ULI has the reputation for giving the most comprehensive and expert viewpoint on best land use practices.

What I really appreciate about ULI’s South Carolina District Council is that it creates a forum where industry leaders in all aspects of land use can gather and speak freely about their needs, desires, and experiences in their field of endeavor. This cross-section of expertise causes you to think holistically about land use in ways that are most relevant. In fact it is much more than land use. This type forum for communication has not only helped me form deep friendships, but it has made me realize that those who are involved in ULISC are fiercely dedicated to their communities and have become watch keepers for these communities and their neighbors. What better asset to your region and community than to have a group of dedicated professionals from multi-disciplinary backgrounds working together to create a better future for that community.

Our goal as a ULI District Council is to keep you as informed as possible about upcoming events, and to be your go-to source for keeping you connected to land use issues in and around your community. Thank you for visiting our website, and we hope to see you at a program in your region very soon!
