Midlands Welcomes Carl Blackstone for Coffee & Conversation on Property Tax Reform

ULISC Midlands gathered on Tuesday, January 22 for their “Coffee & Conversation” series. Carl Blackstone, President & CEO of Columbia Chamber of Commerce, spoke about property tax reform.  As the state capital and home to major educational institutions, government agencies and non-profits, a large percentage of Columbia’s land is non-taxable, presenting significant challenges for the growing city. Mr. Blackstone discussed these challenges, the city’s economic competitiveness and strategies for change. See the presentation here.

Coastal Development 360 Series Kicks Off With The Pre-Development Process

The coastal region kicked off their six-event Development 360 series on Thursday, January 17 with a discussion of the pre-development and entitlements process with Tom Wallington. ULI SC Upstate Tours Inland Port Greer

On January 15, ULI SC’s upstate community toured the SC Ports Authority’s Inland Port Greer. Kevin Brady of Inland Port Greer, led the tour of the facility that opened in October 2013 and handles 6,000 to 7,000 containers daily. The Inland Port helps boost the efficiency of moving shipments from the Port of Charleston to companies all over the southeast.
