Recognizing the urgent need to address systemic and structural racism endemic in ULI and the real estate industry, the ULI SC Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DEI) Working Group is seeking expressions of interest for a ULI SC member to serve as ULI SC’s Statewide Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Chair.

The DEI Working Group is currently led by Andy Gowder and includes senior ULI leaders Diana Permar, Bogue Wallin, Steve Dudash, Jeff Baxter, Matt Kennell, K.J. Jacobs, and Irene Dumas Tyson.

The DEI Chair will work with this group, as well as recruit additional ULI SC members, to form a statewide DEI Committee to operationalize key elements of the ULI SC 2021 – 2023 Strategic Plan (attached) and identify additional steps to ensure ULI SC is more inclusive in its thinking, planning, programming, and operations, is more focused on equity for all of SC’s citizens, and that our membership, leaders and initiatives are more diverse and more representative of SC’s communities.

Additional action items that the DEI Chair and the DEI Committee may pursue include:

• Develop ULI SC’s Equity and Inclusion Statement.
• Create an action plan to intentionally engage diverse groups in advancing ULI’s mission and identify metrics to evaluate progress.
• Recommend programs such as unconscious bias training to increase awareness among ULI SC leaders.
• Liaise with other ULI SC standing committees to ensure that equity and inclusion are foundational to ULI’s entire program of work.  These committees include but are not limited to the Statewide Management Committee, ULI SC Advisory Board, Regional Executive Committees, and the Capital Markets Conference Program Committee.
• Learn from and share with other similar bodies in other ULI District Councils and Product Councils.
• Create increased engagement and leadership opportunities within ULI and the real estate industry, with an immediate focus on the Black community.
• Promote and advance innovations and best practices that result in communities that are equitable by design.

Experience & Commitment

• We are seeking an industry leader with 8 to 10 years of experience; must be a current ULI SC member.
• A two-year commitment is preferred.
• Time commitment includes at least two, one-hour monthly meetings and likely additional subgroup meetings as necessary to launch new initiatives.
