Tour #3: Kiawah River Tour
Tuesday, November 19, 8:30am – 11:00am
Kiawah River is a master planned waterfront community on 2,000 acres of land with 20 miles of riverfront. Research by Chicora Foundation confirms the land was cultivated as corn and indigo fields as early as the 1700s. Formerly known as Mullet Hall Plantation, the land continually sustained its agricultural use with sea island farm fields alongside maritime forest. Tour the property and observe how antebellum irrigation techniques were studied and applied to restore waterways and maintain safe water levels. Additionally, Kiawah River worked to restore shorelines, revitalize fish and bird habitats, and will continue to preserve the land’s agricultural heritage in its development plans.
