The ULI South Carolina Midlands community will gather for a “Coffee and Conversation” on August 10 to hear Bill Stangler, Congaree Riverkeeper. The Congaree Riverkeeper organization is the river watchdog of the South Carolina Midlands regions looking out for the Broad, Lower Saluda, and Congaree Rivers for clean water and healthy rivers. Bill will share his background as well as the status of the ongoing Congaree River sediment cleanup. Coffee and Refreshments will be provided. Thank you to the Girl Scouts of South Carolina for hosting the group at the Cathy Novinger Girl Scout Leadership Center.
Bill Stangler Bio:
Bill has served as your Congaree Riverkeeper since 2011. He first moved to Columbia in 2005 from North Carolina to attend the University of South Carolina. In 2009, he graduated with honors and received his bachelors degree in geography. His studies focused on biogeography, landscape ecology, and river science, and he participated in numerous research projects on area rivers.
Before becoming the Riverkeeper, Bill worked for several years as a local river guide. In his spare time he is an avid paddler, hiker, and general outdoor enthusiast.
