As the holiday season approaches, we cannot let this month go by without saying how grateful we are for our members and sponsors!
They say that volunteers are the backbone of every non-profit, and ULI South Carolina is certainly no exception. With Regional Executive Committees and Program Committees in each of our three regions, along with a statewide Management Committee, these members log many hours helping to advance the mission of ULI which is to provide leadership in the responsible use of land and in creating and sustaining thriving communities worldwide.
With the help of many active and engaged members throughout South Carolina, by next week, we will have offered close to 30 virtual events since late March. While we certainly prefer seeing everyone in-person, we are grateful for the technology that allows us all to gather virtually. In addition to these groups that meet monthly, the past several months an ad hoc committee has helped to create a very successful five-part series on Urban Resilience. This series wraps up on November 12, but stay tuned for more events like these in 2021.
Thanks to all of you who have joined us for these events over the past eight months – you’ve been very engaged and have asked tough questions, and we like it!
We’d also like to thank the 20 members who have been trained as UrbanPlan volunteers, helping us to introduce high school and university students to the development process. Several of these volunteers will be working virtually with College of Charleston student teams over the next several weeks.
Finally, we know as ULI SC members you give in a variety of ways—by donating your time and expertise and by renewing your ULI membership. But did you know that only a small percentage of your ULI membership dues go to supporting the work of ULI in South Carolina? This year especially, as we face a lean fiscal year, your additional support will help advance programs like UrbanPlan in the classroom, Technical Assistance Panels that help communities manage change and continue to develop great, member-driven content like Virtual Crane Watch Tours of Greenville and Charleston (December 3 at 10:00AM – register now!).
As a nonprofit, ULI relies on members and supporters to do the mission-driven work of changing our communities in equitable ways to benefit all that live here. Supporting ULI philanthropically by becoming a ULI South Carolina Annual Sponsor or by making an individual donation to the ULI Foundation and designating the ULI South Carolina District Council, will help us to further develop and expand our program of work to better meet the changing needs of South Carolina’s communities.
Despite the challenges of this year, we have a lot for which to be grateful. We wish you and your family a safe and Happy Thanksgiving and holiday season.
