Event Recap: ULI South Carolina Celebrates Successful Inaugural Golf Tournament

ULI is its members! ULI South Carolina is highlighting our membership in a new feature of the monthly newsletter – Meet Our Members. Over the next several months, we’d like to introduce you to the members of the Inaugural ULI SC Advisory Board.
The Inaugural Advisory Board will advise ULI SC on the implementation of the ULI SC Strategic Plan, with a particular focus on our commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion throughout all aspects of the organization. The board consists of mostly non-ULI members who can provide an outside perspective on the organization and the real estate industry and help us to recognize blind spots and opportunities to increases access to and awareness of the real estate profession to Black people, women and other people of color. As a thank-you for their service on the board, each board member received a ULI membership.
Kristy Ellenberg is the Director of Collaborative Partnerships & Strategic Initiatives for Environmental Affairs at the SC Department of Health & Environmental Control (DHEC). In this role, she strengthens connections with government, industry, non-profit, professional and academic partners by assisting with complex permitting, convening collaborative stakeholder workgroups, guiding community engagement and supporting environmental justice.
Marvin Pendarvis is a native of North Charleston. He is a two time graduate of the University of South Carolina, receiving a BA in Political Science in 2011 and a J.D. in 2014.
Immediately upon graduation, Marvin moved back to his hometown of North Charleston to begin practicing law as an Associate Attorney at Peper Law Firm. His commitment to advocacy led him to run and win, a seat in the South Carolina House of Representatives in 2017, where he has the opportunity to represent the place that birthed him, North Charleston.
Marvin joined The Peper Law Firm in January 2018 and has focused his practice on personal injury and criminal defense, while also being well versed in other areas of the law. In addition to being a member of ULI South Carolina’s Inaugural Advisory Board, Mr. Pendarvis is also a Board Member of Low Country Alliance of Model Communities, an Advisory Board member of South Carolina Commission on Minority Affairs, a Steering Committee Member of Trident United Way Young Leaders United, member of the Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc, and was recently appointed to the Board of Directors for the Charleston Youth Development Center.
Marvin is married to his college sweetheart HaQuasha, and has a son, Marvin Jr. (Duece), who recently turned one. In his free time, Marvin enjoys time with family and friends, watching a good movie, and cheering on his South Carolina Gamecocks, Denver Broncos, New York Yankees and Los Angeles Lakers. His guiding principle remains: “If not now, then when; if not you, then who…live your best life now!”
Amber Stewart is Program Associate for the SC Association for Community Economic Development (SCACED). Through its network of members and partner organizations, SCACED strives to improve the quality of life for low-wealth families and communities by advancing community economic development and public policy in South Carolina. Amber oversees the Community Development Institute Training program, CIF grant program, SC Department of Commerce CED Certification Program, and the CD Tax Credit program. She also supports the President with Policy initiatives. Amber completed her undergraduate at Missouri State University and received her Master of Social Work with an emphasis in social, community, economic development from the University of South Carolina in 2017. She also participated and completed Francis Marion University’s Fred R. Sheheen Non-Profit Leadership Institute.
