One of ULI’s greatest strengths is its ability to tap into the expertise and experience of its diverse, influential members to further regional cooperation and planning. On October 22, 2013, ULI South Carolina will host our 3rd Reality Check in Columbia. The Midlands Reality Check will include an eight-county region. The region runs from Sumter on the east to Winnsboro on the north to roughly Newberry and Batesburg-Leesville on the west to northern Calhoun County on the south. It encompasses all of Richland and Lexington counties, and parts of Sumter, Kershaw, Fairfield, Newberry, Saluda and Calhoun counties.
In this article from the Columbia Regional Business Report, Grant Jackson, Senior Vice President of the Greater Columbia Chamber of Commerce, outlines the pressing need for Reality Check. With an anticipated 450,000 new residents expected by 2040, Reality Check will bring the region together to create a vision for how the region will grow and envisions how new homes, jobs and transportation options might be distributed across the region
