Event Recap - Mass Timber & The Future of Development
March 14, 2018
Continuing on the success of the event held in Greenville last fall, ULI hosted a second event on Mass Timber in Charleston on March 13.
Developers, architects and others learned more about the opportunities to use mass timber, in particular cross-laminated timber (CLT) in the construction of multi-story buildings. Participants learned about the benefits of mass timber – such as faster construction, seismic performance, efficient footprints to name a few. Other topics discussed include resourcing the timber material, structural design processes, recent case studies and opportunities to implement CLT in the design process. Select mass timber projects from around the world were highlighted to demonstrate successful applications using mass timber.
Presenters included David Impson and Graham Montgomery of Britt, Peters & Associates (Greenville), Charles Starck of Lendlease (Nashville, TN), and Bruce Lindsey of Woodworks/Wood Products Council (Charlotte). Thanks to our sponsors Mashburn Construction, Britt, Peters & Associates, Clemson Wood Utilization and Design Institute, WoodWorks/Wood Products Council.
A third event is being planned for the Midlands on Thursday, June 14. More details to come.
