ULI SC's First UrbanPlan Class is in the Books!
December 13, 2018
Students in our inaugural UrbanPlan class at the College of Charleston finished up their projects this week, with a presentation of their plans to “City Council.”
Ten volunteers served as Facilitators, working with the students during two class periods as they refined their master plan for the 5.5 block site in the fictitious town of Elmwood. Five student teams of 5, including a Site Planner, Financial Analyst, Neighborhood Liaison, City Liaison, and Director of Marketing, weighed the trade-offs and difficult decisions that are often part of the development process.
The projects culminated in each of the teams presenting their plans to the “City Council” – comprised of 5 ULI SC member volunteers. The presentations were held in Charleston’s City Council Chambers on Broad Street. At the conclusion of the presentations members and students gathered at the Blind Tiger for a reception celebrating the successful launch of UrbanPlan.
A big thank you to all of our volunteers for sharing your time and expertise with the students, Dr. Elaine Worzala at College of Charleston’s Carter Real Estate Center, and ULI SC’s UrbanPlan Chair Alex Fraser. Thank you also to the City of Charleston, for allowing us to use the beautiful and historic City Council Chambers.
