Want to learn more about UrbanPlan? Join us in Charleston on March 8
February 8, 2018
Interested in becoming an UrbanPlan volunteer? Join us for an informational happy hour on March 8 at 4:30pm at Fatty’s Beer Works in downtown Charleston.
UrbanPlan is a realistic, engaging exercise in which participants—high school students, university students, or public officials—learn about the fundamental forces that affect real estate development in our communities. Through an academically challenging, classroom-based curriculum, students learn the essence of development: how the forces of our market economy clash and collaborate with the non-market forces of our representative democracy to create the built environment – providing the foundation required for any informed land use discussion. The program is launching this fall at the College of Charleston, and at Wando High School in the spring.
Member volunteers are vital to the success of the program, serving as facilitators working with student teams, or as a member of the “city council” judging the teams’ presentations.
