Congratulations to ULI South Carolina Governance Chair, Jeff Baxter, who is serving as Jury Chair for the 2024 ULI Hines Student Competition.
Jeff, a Partner with Cityvolve, LLC., served on the 2023 Hines Competition Jury, which focused on a waterfront site in North Charleston, SC. Serving as Jury Chair seems to bring things full circle, as Jeff was part of the winning team of the first ULI Hines Student Competition in 2003.
The ULI Hines Student Competition—in its 22nd year —offers graduate students the opportunity to form their own multidisciplinary teams and engage in a challenging exercise in responsible land use. Teams of five students pursuing degrees in at least three different disciplines have two weeks to devise a development program for a real, large-scale site in a North American city. Teams provide graphic boards and narratives of their proposals including designs and market-feasible financial data.
This year’s competition is focused on a site in downtown Seattle Washington. The Study Area consists of 15.4 acres, including several historic properties. Its boundaries are Washington Street to the south, the I-5 James Street exit and Seventh Avenue to the east, Cherry Street to the north, and Second Avenue South to the west.
